FinalEscape Official Game Guide

Welcome to FinalEscape, an advanced text-based browser game unlike any other!

If you have played other text browser games before, some aspects of FinalEscape may be familiar to you. While there are indeed some similiarities, every game system in FinalEscape has been completely custom built from scratch to create a dynamic, exciting, user-friendly and engrossing gameplay experience.

This Official Game Guide provides an introduction to the major game systems and concepts you will find in FinalEscape, along with tips on how to make best use of each.

Skill Distribution
The first thing you will see after you have activated your account and logged in to FinalEscape will be an alert regarding the initial skill distribution:

Each player begins with 1000 skill points to distribute among a select group of the over 50 different avatar skills available in FinalEscape, allowing players to orient thier avatars toward a desired career.

The maximum value that any skill can be raised to on this skill distribution page is 100 points. A Reset button is available if you wish to clear the form and start again. The Even Distribution button will distribute all of the points evenly for each skill. The Random Distribution will distribute the points randomly among the available skills each time the button is pressed.

Once you are satisfied with the distribution of your skill points, be sure to click the Submit button at the bottom of the page to finalize the process.

New players are recommended to distribute these initial skills before attempting any actions or activities, in order to have a decent chance of success in the low-level actions.

If you accidentally navigate away from this page before completing the skill distribution, you can find it again by selecting the Central item from the Menu dropdown menu, or simply by clicking the FinalEscape banner at the top of any game page.

Stamina
Nearly every action and activity in FinalEscape expends a certain amount of stamina, which represents not only the physical or mental effort involved in performing an action, but also the amount of time needed.

Your current stamina level is displayed in the Avatar Status area in the top left corner of every page:

Stamina regenerates naturally over time, and the rate at which this regeneration occurs is partly dependent upon certain avatar skills. Stamina can also be replenished by consuming energy bars, or various drugs (legal and illegal) that you may acquire during your activities. Basic energy bars can be purchased at any time from the Phiela Exchange, which offers many essential basic items for sale.

While confined in prison, avatar stamina regenerates at a faster rate (3% of max stamina every two minutes).
________________________________________________

Health
Health is a measure of an avatar's current physical well being. Your avatar's health level can be diminished during failed actions or during combat with other players. Any time health falls to 1 or less, your avatar will be hospitalized (for example as a result of combat with another player, or a series of minor injuries sustained while performing actions). In addition, if the outcome of an attempted action (i.e. a crime, fabrication, exploration or missions task) results in a severe injury, your avatar will be immediately hospitalized, and health level set to 1.

Health regenerates slowly over time. The natural healing process can be accelerated through the use of First Aid Kits (a basic FAK is available from the Phiela Exchange), and from various medicines or drugs that you may discover.

While confined in the hospital, avatar health regenerates at a faster rate (5% of max health every two minutes).
________________________________________________

Level/Combat Rating/Influence
Level is a general indicator of a colonist's experience and skills. Each of the numerous avatar skills and attributes in FinalEscape contributes to this metric in varying weights. In addition to providing players with a rough indicator of experience, Level is sometimes used as a requirement for certain activities, including the availability of various missions, actions, courses, jobs, etc.

Combat Rating is calculated through a weighted measure of an avatar's experience points in a handful of skills, including combat, attributes, and certain general skills. Combat ratings are provided to give a fairly reliable indication of an avatar's combat capability. Note however that since Combat Rating does not include armor protection or weapon damage potential, this metric can be fatally misleading. Combat ratings are also employed as part of the calculation for skill point rewards derived from combat. Defeating a player with a higher combat rating awards more skill points than defeating a player with a lower combat rating.

Influence is a measure of a colonist's political and social influence and standing in society. Influence is calculated through a weighted measure of experience in certain relevant skills, with extra weight given to social skills. Influence is used in conjunction with various game systems to determine a player's level of access and capabilities within those systems. For example, the maximum number of members a faction can have is directly determined by the Influence level of the faction leader. Similarly, the locations/travel system uses Influence to determine which locations are available to a player (see below).
________________________________________________

Money
The currency used on the Phiela planet is called the Phiela Monetary Unit (PMU), and is represented by the following currency symbol: þ

All players begin their adventure in FinalEscape with a þ500 resettlement allowance, provided by the Phiela government. From then on, money must be acquired by successfully performing actions, completing missions, working in jobs, or mugging other players.

Bank
To safeguard your cash, the Phiela Bank offers free accounts to all colonists. These accounts incur a small 2% transaction fee for all deposits and withdrawals. Any money stored in the Phiela Bank cannot be looted by other players in a mugging. However, any cash you carry can potentially be stolen by other players if you are defeated in combat, so be wary.

To access the Phiela Bank, click on the Bank link available at the top of any page.

There is also a handy bank widget icon available on many pages, which launches a small popup window allowing you to transfer funds to or from your bank account without leaving the currently viewed page.

Cash Transfer
The Phiela Bank also offer a funds transfer service, which allows players to quickly and safely send funds to one other. Simply enter the first few letters of the recipient player's name, and a list of potential matches will appear. Click the desired player's name, enter an amount, and finalize by clicking the Submit button. Each transfer incurs a þ5 fee, paid by the sender in addition to the funds being transferred. For example, if you wish to transfer þ500 to another player, you will need to have at least þ505 in your bank account.

A history of your recend funds transfers is displayed below the transfer form.

*NOTE*All bank transaction fees are waived for Preferred Colonists. Please see the Donations section below for more information.

Alerts
The alerts system updates you with various bits of information directly related to your avatar, including: notification of level increases or ability unlocks, auction bidding notifications, combat results, etc. A scrolling message will appear in the notification bar at the top of every page whenever you have an unread alert.
________________________________________________

Announcements
Announcements are messages sent by the game staff to all players. A scrolling message will appear in the notification bar at the top of every page whenever a new or unread announcement exists.
________________________________________________

Mail
FinalEscape includes a full-featured in-game messaging system to allow players to communicate with one another. The mail system includes a full WYSIWYG text editor, as well as message archive and search tools. Click on the lightbulb icon for full details of all the mail features and how to use them.
________________________________________________

Contacts
The FinalEscape contacts system allows you to maintain a list of up to 25 fellow players. You current contacts are displayed in convenient table, with summary info for each, including online status, location and level. Adding players to your contact list is an entirely one-way process, meaning that the added players are neither notified that you have added them, nor is their approval required.

Contacts who have been active within the last 5 minutes will display a green icon, and will be listed at the top of the contacts display, with players who are not currently active listed below.
________________________________________________

Skills
One of the things that you will notice very quickly about FinalEscape is the importance of your avatar's skills. FinalEscape features over 50 different skills and attributes, offering players lots of freedom to develop their avatars, opportunities for specialization, and many paths to success (and domination). Players can opt to focus on developing a small group of skills in order to excel in a particular area (i.e. combat or fabrication), or they can develop their skills more evenly to become proficient in many activities.

Nearly every action that can be performed in FinalEscape takes into account your levels in related skills when calculating success or failure. Similarly, each action builds a different mix of skills depending on the nature of the activity or task attempted.

Every time you perform an action (for example a crime, a mission task, a bribe attempt), you gain points in the skills related to that action. Thus, the more a particular activity is attempted, the more proficient your avatar becomes in the skills related to that activity, and over time your results will improve (much like real life). You gain more skills from succeeding in an attempted action, but you also receive some skill points when you fail.

In addition to gaining skills by performing actions, you can also increase your skills in three other ways: Training, Education, and Work.
________________________________________________

Training
The training facility allows you to train certain physical skills of your avatar (i.e. dexterity, fitness, melee combat, etc.). Each training action allows you to specify the amount of stamina you wish to spend; the more stamina spent training, the more skills your avatar will gain. Note that as your avatar's skill levels increase, the gains from training decline as it becomes progressively more difficult to improve.

For convenience, any stamina-replenishing consumables that you currently hold in inventory are displayed at the bottom of the training facility page, allowing you to restore your stamina without needing to navigate to the inventory page.
________________________________________________

Academy
The Phiela Academy offers colonists courses in many disciplines and areas of study. Each course has an enrollment fee, along with a stamina cost that must be paid each time you sign in to resume studying. In order to complete a course, you need to accumulate time credit by signing in to the current academy course.

Once you have fulfilled the required amount of study time for the currently enrolled course, a status image will appear, alerting you that you have completed the course. You must then visit the academy page and click the Complete Course button to receive your diploma and related skill points.

Courses are organized into a hierarchal tree divided into several major areas of study. The courses at the base (leftmost side) of the tree have the fewest requirements and costs. More advanced courses may require certain skill or avatar levels, and/or the completion of one or several prerequisite courses in order to enroll. Course relationships can be viewed by clicking the and icons, which will highlight dependent and prerequisite courses, respectively.

The icon indicates that you do not yet meet the requirements for that course. A icon indicates that you have completed that course.

If you meet all of the course requirements and have enough PMU and stamina, you can click the Enroll button on the course information popup window to enroll in a course. You will then immediately begin earning time credit toward completion of the course.

If you perform any activity that requires stamina, you will automatically be signed out of the academy course, and will need to sign in again in order to continue studying and accumulating time credit. If you are currently enrolled in a course, you can sign in again by visiting the Academy page. You time remaining until completion of the current course is displayed here as well.

**IMPORTANT NOTES**
*FinalEscape automatically logs you out if you are inactive for more than approximately 45 minutes. Inactive means that you do not load a game page while signed in to your account. The longest you can accumulate academy time credits while inactive is 2 hours, after which you will need to sign in to the course again.

*Skill Maximum - If your current skill level is higher than the Max Skill value when completing a course, the listed skill gain for the course is reduced in proportion to the amount by which your skill level exceeds the Max Skill.

*Courses - Each course can only be completed one time, after which you will need to enroll in a higher level course.
________________________________________________

Jobs
The Phiela Job Board maintains a database of employment opportunities for ambitious colonists. The current job listings are displayed in a hierarchal tree, much like academy courses. Each job has a designated hourly pay rate, and also awards skill points. Entry level jobs have low (or no) skill or course requirements. Higher paying jobs are more demanding, and may require the completion of certain academy courses, proficiency levels in certain skills, and/or hours logged in a lower level job.

Once you have successfully been hired for a job, signing in to work operates in much the same way as for academy courses. While signed in to your job, performing any action that requires stamina causes you to immediately be signed out from the job. To resume earning time credit, you will then need to sign in again (and pay the stamina cost associated with your current job).

Wages and skills for hours worked are paid once per day, up to a maximum of 8 hours per day. Work beyond 8 hours in a day is not paid, but will count toward accumulated hours needed for higher paying jobs.

For your protection against potential muggings, wages are automatically deposited into your avatar's account at the Phiela Bank.

Jobs displayed in blue are reserved for players with an active Preferred Colonist card. Please see the Donations section below for more information.
________________________________________________

Inventory
All items that you acquire are placed into your avatar's carried inventory, whether such items are bought from the auction, looted from actions or missions, or received in parcels from other players.

The amount of weight your avatar can carry is limited to 100 kg, plus a small amount in proportion to your avatar's Strength attribute. Your avatar's current and maxiumum allowed weight values are displayed at the top of the inventory page.

If the total weight of carried items exceeds the allowed maximum, your avatar will begin to suffer stamina penalties in proportion to the excess weight. For example, if your avatar is 20% overweight, all actions will cost 20% more stamina. For training, skill gains are reduced proportionately up to 300% of the weight limit. If a player's carried inventory is more than 300% of the maximum, skill rewards from training are reduced to 1 skill point per train (regardless of how much stamina is spent).

An status image is displayed to warn you any time your avatar's weight limit is being exceeded. If you find yourself overloaded, you may consider purchasing a dwelling where extra items can be stored, and thereby reduce the burden on carried inventory. See the Dwellings section below for more info on dwellings and storage.

A collapsible visual silhouette representation of your avatar and the items that are currently equipped is available in the avatar inventory page:

To equip an item, click on the desired item's icon image, and press the Equip button. Note that if another item is already equipped in the same slot, it will be automatically unequipped. Items can also be equipped by clicking the icon in the item listing table. Items displaying the icon are currently equipped.

All equippable items have a designated equip slot, which can be viewed in the item info popup.
  • P = Primary Weapon
  • S = Secondary Weapon
  • B = Both hands
  • H = Head
  • T = Torso
  • A = Arms
  • L = Legs
  • F = Feet
  • N = Necklace
  • C = Coat
  • U = Utility Belt

**IMPORTANT NOTES**
*Only players who have unlocked the Dual Wielding ability at Combat Rating 20 are able to equip a Primary and Secondary weapon simultaneously. Note that it is not possible to equip two P weapons, or two S weapons at the same time.

*B weapons require two hands, and thus do not allow for Dual Wielding.

Combat
Given the lack of time for effective governmental and legal systems to emerge on the nascent colony, daily life on Phiela can be extremely dangerous. Colonists are encouraged to take active measures to defend themselves from thugs, criminals and gangsters at all times.

One way to ensure the personal safety of your avatar is by purchasing a suit of PXSG armor from the Phiela Exchange, which offers a reasonable amount of protection from most basic weapons. More advanced armor and weaponry can be discovered, fabricated or purchased as your avatar progresses.

Players have the ability to engage in combat with one another. The result of such confrontations is highly dependent on the relative skill proficiencies of the combatants, as well as the type of weapons and armor each has equipped. If the initiator of the combat encounter emerges victorious, two options are available: Leave and Mug. In both cases, if the defeated player was signed in to an academy course or job, the time spent in the hospital following a combat loss is deducted from the accumulated time credits.

The Leave option results in a longer hospital stay for the defeated player and more skill gains for the victor, but no cash or items are looted.

The Mug option allows the victor to steal a portion of the defeated opponent's cash and items, but results in lower skill gains for the winner and a shorter hospital stay for the loser. If the initiator of a combat encounter is defeated, the defender will automatically mug the opponent.

A combat encounter with another player can be initiated in several ways. The easiest way is to simply visit the target player's profile and click the Attack button at the top of the page, which will bring you to the combat lobby. Alternatively, combat can be initiated directly from the combat lobby page by entering the target player's avatar name in the search box. Note that the target player must have at least 50 health points in order to be attacked, and must be in the same location as your avatar.

A combat encounter consists of a series of rounds in which each player has one attempt to damage the opponent. The order in which players attack each round is random, with each player having an equal chance of attacking first for the current round.

The combat interface offers two options: manual or automatic combat. Manual combat offers several options during each combat round: Attack and Flee, as well as the ability to switch weapons. The Flee option allows the attacker to attempt to run away from the opponent if the encounter is going badly. The success of this flee attempt depends on several factors, including the current relative health & stamina levels of the combatants, as well as certain skill levels.

At any time during manual combat, you can click the Auto button, which will speed through the rest of the combat rounds very quickly. If your avatar emerges victorious, the Leave and Mug buttons will be activated and you can choose what to do with the defeated opponent.

**IMPORTANT NOTES**
*Once you begin combat, you cannot load any other game pages until the combat encounter is completed. If you do so, you will automatically forfeit the combat encounter and will be mugged and hospitalized. Note that this applies even if you have another FinalEscape page open in a different browser tab. ANY navigation by your account other than on the combat page during an active combat encounter will result in immediate forfeit.

*To give new players a fighting chance in their first few days on Phiela, players with a Combat Rating of 10 or higher cannot attack players with a Combat Rating below 10. This protection allows new players (i.e. those with a CR < 10) to engage in combat with one another and experience the basics of the FinalEscape combat system without exposing them to excessive bashing from players who are much more skilled and better equipped.

*In order to prevent repetitive bashing, combat can only be initiated against a particular player once every 3 hours.
________________________________________________

Combat Muggings & Skill Rewards
If the end result of a combat encounter is a mugging, the victor will steal a portion of the defeated player's cash, as well as potentially raiding some of the items carried in inventory. Note however that only certain types of items can be taken during a mugging, mainly consumables such as energy bars and medicines/drugs, or in rare cases weapons, armor or miscellaneous items. Items that a player has equipped and items with the [BM] designation in the item name cannot be looted in a mugging. The effectiveness of a mugging attempt is partially dependent on the level of several (undisclosed) skills of the victor.

The amount of cash looted from a player depends in part on how recently that player was last mugged, in order to limit the damage a group of players banding together can cause to a single opponent. To prevent high-level players from terrorizing new players, only cash (no items) will be looted if the victor's Combat Rating is more than 8 levels above the victim's.

Both players involved in a combat encounter earn skills related directly to the types of weapons used by each. The winner of the combat encounter receives more skills than the loser. If the attacker (combat initiator) wins the encounter and selects the leave option, more skills are gained than by selecting the mug option. The amount of skills earned from a combat encounter is directly related to the Combat Rating of the opponent.
________________________________________________

Missions
The missions system allows players to offer their services to NPC clients through contracted jobs. Each mission has several tasks that must be successfully performed to complete the mission and receive the reward. In order to undertake a particular mission, you must fulfill any skill and/or course requirements, which can be viewed on the Info tab on the missions page. Additionally, some mission tasks may require one or more items.

All missions have a mission point cost, which can be seen on the main mission page. Every player begins the game with 6 mission points, and gains 1 mission point every 2 hours. There are also special Mission Request items that can be acquired, which restore 6 mission points. In the interest of game balancing, a player can only use two Mission Request items per day.

As your avatar's level increases, new, higher-level missions with more risk and rewards will become available, and lower-level missions will no longer be offered.
________________________________________________

Actions
FinalEscape features three primary types of actions that your avatar can perform: crimes, fabrication, and exploration. Each of these action types work very similiarly, but have different relevant skills. The actions visible to your avatar depend on several factors, including your Level, current location, and skill distribution. As you become more skilled, more actions will become available to be performed; once you get within 20% of the skill/level requirements for a hidden action, the action will become visible (but still unable to be attempted until all requirements are met).

Actions may also have course and/or item requirements. Also, certain actions may require a small amount of cash for each attempt. This cash cost represents various minor or incidental expenses involved in the performance of the action. All of the various requirements for an action can be viewed by clicking the Info button on one of the action pages.

Crimes
Crimes allow your avatar to attempt to rob, mug, or defraud NPC colonists in an attempt to acquire money and items. Some crimes only reward money (i.e. Basic Scam), while most others reward money and frequently items.

Fabrication
Fabrication actions allow your avatar to construct various components and finished goods that can be used or sold to other players. All fabrication actions require one or more items, which are usually (but not always) consumed in the fabrication attempt.

Exploration
Exploration is split into two main types of actions: scouting and surveying. Scouting involves examining a particular area in search of valuable items that can be used or sold. Surveying involves the use of resource detection tools to gather valuable minerals and resources from the ground. Surverying actions require one of the various mineral scanners that can be fabricated, looted or purchased, as well as an excavation tool. Higher level scanners will allow your avatar to scan deeper within the ground and improve the chances of finding valuable resources.
________________________________________________

Auction
FinalEscape features a centralized auction system which allows players to securely sell items to one another. All auction transactions are made using a player's Phiela Bank account. Items won on the auction are delivered to the winning bidder via the Parcels system (see below).

Auction bid increments are proportional to the current bid, and follow the following schedule:

For example, if the current bid on an auction item is 1200 PMU, the next bid must be at least 1220 PMU.

Auction Preferences/Bidding Alias
The first time you visit the auction page, you will find several auction settings, including your auction alias and auction alert preferences. Before you can participate in any auctions, you must set an auction alias. All of the various auction-related alerts to Yes by default. If you later wish to change your auction alias or preferences, you can do so on the Preferences page, under the Auction tab. Note that you cannot change your auction alias if you are participating in any active auctions (either as buyer or seller).

Selling
When listing an item for auction, there are several parameters that can be defined, including: quantity, auction duration, starting bid, and an optional Buy Now price (which allows another player to instantly purchase the item). Any items placed on auction are removed from your avatar's inventory for the duration of the auction. If the auction ends without a sale, the item is returned to your inventory. As the seller you can also cancel an active auction if noone has yet bid on the item by clicking the Remove button on the auction listing.

Auction fees are charged at a rate of 6% of the resell value of the item(s) being listed (the amount the item(s) can be sold back to the Phiela Exchange), with a minimum fee of 4 PMU. An optional premium listing can also be added for a flat fee of 50 PMU, which gives your item more visibility in the auction display pages via special colored highlighting.

Bidding
To place a bid on an active auction, you must have enough funds in your bank account to cover the amount of the bid (or any proxy bid you choose to place, see below). If you have the highest bid when the auction ends, you will win the auction and the item(s) will be placed into your inventory. If your bid is equal to or higher than the Buy Now price, you will immediately win the item and funds will be transferred to the seller.

Proxy Bidding
When entering your bid amount, you have the option of entering an amount higher than that needed to claim the high bid. If you do so, the auction system will automatically bid on your behalf the minimum amount necessary to maintain the highest bid on the auction, until your maximum proxy bid amount is reached. If you are currently the high bidder on an item, you also have the option to increase your max proxy bid by clicking the Increase button for that auction listing.

Example:
Current bid - 400 PMU

You enter 700 in the bid form. A bid of 405 PMU is automatically placed for you, and will be listed on the auction as the new current high bid. A few minutes later, another player bids 500 on the item. The auction system will automatically bid 510 on your behalf, reclaiming the top bid. Another player then bids 620 PMU. Again, the auction system will bid on your behalf, this time in the amount of 630 PMU. If a new bidder then comes along and bids 720 PMU (thus exceeding your maximum proxy bid), your 700 PMU will be returned to your bank account.

**IMPORTANT NOTES**
*Be sure to have enough funds in your bank account to cover the auction listing fee when attempting to list an item for sale on the auction.

*In the case of bid ties (identical bid amounts), the earlier bidder has precedence (i.e. the orignal proxy bidder).

*A scheduled task runs every five minutes which finalizes all completed auctions and returns any funds from outbid bids or proxy bids. If you do not receive funds back immediately after being outbid, do not be alarmed; the funds will be returned the next time the scheduled task is performed.

*Items bought from the auction using the Buy Now option are immediately placed into your inventory, rather than being delivered via Parcel.

*Preferred Colonists receive a 50% discount on all auction fees. Please see the Donations section below for more information.
________________________________________________

Travel
The Phiela government operates a public transportation system, called the HyperTram, composed of vacuum-filled tunnels which allow tram cars to travel at very high speeds between various locations on the planet surface.

To access the HyperTram system, colonists much purchase a HyperTram Pass from the Phiela Exchange (PX). Passes are available in 1, 7 and 28 day durations. After buying a HyperTram pass, you must activate the pass from your avatar's inventory (under the Miscellaneous tab). Once activated, the pass begins counting down to the expiration date. Your current available HyperTram access time can be viewed on the travel page.

Access to stations in the HyperTram system is tightly controlled by the Phiela government. All colonists have access to the following stations:
  • Phiela City - The original settlement and capital of Phiela.
  • Twelve Foothills - Low hills southwest of the city which form a natural protection for the capital.
  • Kelvin's Outpost - A small and bustling outpost of traders and explorers.
  • Northwest Plains - A wide expanse of rolling fields and wooded areas northwest of Phiela City.
  • Wasteland - A barren and desolate region far to the east of Phiela City, where future industrial expansion has been planned by the central government.
  • Southern Cliffs - Rocky bluffs and outcroppings overlooking Essler, an inland sea.

Additional locations become available as a colonist's Influence increases, and will automatically appear on the map.

Traveling between stations costs a varying amount of stamina, depending on the distance. This stamina cost is displayed dynamically on the map as a number in parentheses next to each station. Your current location is represented on the map by a brown colored hexagon, and your currently selected destination is highlighed as a green hexagon.

Note that many actions and activities in FinalEscape are location-specific. For example, academy study, crimes and fabrication actions are only available in populated areas (i.e. Phiela City and Kelvin's Outpost). Availability of various scouting and surveying actions are also highly dependent on an avatar's location.

Your avatar's current location can always be viewed in the top-left information area, just above the status bars.
________________________________________________

Dwellings
Players can purchase deeds for dwellings at the Estate Agency; dwellings are useful for storing items, which serves two main purposes:

1. Items stored in a dwelling cannot be looted by other players in muggings
2. Reducing the weight of carried items in normal inventory

Dwellings incur monthly taxes that must be paid to the Phiela Government every 30 days. Each dwelling deed has a particular tax rate, which is calculated on the base value of the deed. For example, if the base value of your dwelling is 1000 PMU, and the tax rate for that dwelling is 4%, then the monthly tax that must be paid is 40 PMU. Tax rates vary among dwellings, and are dependent on location, size, number of improvement points, and security rating. The date when taxes are next due is displayed on the Dwellings page.

If you already own a dwelling and wish to upgrade to a larger dwelling at a later time, this is easily achieved by simply buying the new dwelling. Your old dwelling will automatically be sold back to the Estate Agent, and all of your stored items will be automatically moved into the new dwelling. Note however that any item upgrades you have added to the old dwelling will not be transferred to the new dwelling.

Storage
Each dwelling has a maximum amount of storage capacity, which can be further increased through the use of special dwelling upgrade items. Each dwelling upgrade item requires a certain number of improvement points in order to be added to a dwelling. The current number of available improvements points for a dwelling can be viewed on the Dwellings page.

Items can be placed into (or removed from) storage by simply setting the quantity desired in the qty box next to the item type you wish to move, and clicking the blue arrow in the same row.

To move multiple item types in a single batch, first set the quantity of each item type you wish to move, and then click the appropriate arrow near the top (Carry? --> or <-- Store?).

**IMPORTANT NOTES**
*Dwellings also have a security rating, which is not currently implemented (but will be soon).
*Colonists may only own a single dwelling at each map location at one time.
*Once dwelling upgrade items are applied to a dwelling, the Improvement Points are spent and cannot be replaced. To use higher level or additional dwelling upgrade items, a new dwelling must be purchased.
________________________________________________

Shops
FinalEscape features two permanent shops where players can buy various items.

Phiela Exchange
The Phiela Exchange offers essential basic items for sale to colonists, including energy bars, HyperTram passes, basic First Aid Kits, basic combat equipment, and commonly used resources.

Black Market
The Phiela City black market is an underground network of shady merchants, greedy pawnbrokers, soulless gunrunners and dodgy drugdealers. The precise location of these merchants and shops is constantly changing in order to avoid interference by the Phiela Security Division (PSD) police forces.

A central database of the current location of black market vendors is maintained by unknown individuals. Access to this black market database is tightly controlled by the use of encrypted, time-limited access codes, which are distributed on data discs to potential clients. In order to purchase the rare and powerful (and often illegal) items available on the black market, players must obtain one of these black market access code discs, which can be looted in certain actions and missions.

**IMPORTANT NOTES**
*The stock of items available in the Black Market shop changes at random times.

* Most items available for purchase on the Phiela Black Market have a [R] notation in the item name, which indicates that these items cannot be sold/traded/given to other players, nor can they be looted in muggings.

*A 28 day Black Market access code donator item is available on the Donations page.

The prison page lists all of the avatars currently confined in the PSD Detention Center, along with the time remaining on their sentences, and a brief description of the reason for their arrest.

Friends or faction mates can attempt a bribe of the prison guards to have a confined colonist released early. If the bribe is successful, an alert is sent to the player who was released indicating the cost of the bribe and the name of avatar who paid the bribe. The cost of a bribe and its chance of success depend on several factors: confinement time remaining, severity of offense, and experience in certain skills of the player offering the bribe. In order to attempt a prison bribe for another player, your avatar must be in the same location as the confined avatar.
________________________________________________

Hospital
The hospital page lists all of the players currently recovering from injuries, the expected recovery time, and the cause of hospitalization. While hospitalized, avatars recover 5% of their maxiumum health every two minutes.

An experimental treatment can be attempted to speed the recovery process and get a player released early. A successful treatment restores 25 health to the confined player, and results in immediate discharge from the hospital. The cost and chance of success of such treatments depend on several factors: recovery time remaining, severity of the injury, and experience in certain applicable skills of the player attempting the treatment. In order to attempt an experimental treatment for another player, your avatar must be in the same location as the hospitalized avatar.

Parcel Delivery
The parcel system is used to securely sell one or more items to another player in the form of a COD (cash on delivery) package. This system offers players a risk-free method of direct P2P transactions, in which items and PMU are exchanged instantaneously.

Parcel delivery is subject to a small fee based COD value of the items in the parcel: 1%, with a minimum fee of þ2. This fee is paid by the sender when the parcel is initially sent. Delivery fees are non-refundable, even if the parcel is recalled by the sender or cancelled by the recipient.

To send a parcel, the sender selects the items and quantities to be included in the parcel, the name of the recipient, and then sets a COD price for the entire package. Once all fields are completed and the form submitted, the recipient receives an alert about the waiting parcel.

The recipient can then inspect the contents of the parcel, and has the option of paying the COD price to receive the goods. If the recipient pays the COD price, the PMU is instantly credited to the sender's cash account, and the items in the parcel are placed into the recipients inventory. If the recipient chooses to refuse the parcel, the goods are placed back into the sender's inventory and the transaction is ended.

The parcel sender has the option to take back a sent parcel at any time before the parcel is accepted and paid for by the recipient. A summary of your current and past parcel transactions is available on the Parcels page, where a "Take Back" button is offered for any unclaimed parcels.

**IMPORTANT NOTES**
*Note that all fees and COD transactions are performed using the wallet (cash) account, not bank account.

*The Phiela Auctioneer NPC will send a separate parcel for each completed auction listing where you were the highest bidder. Each parcel shipped will contain the item(s) won, with a 1 PMU COD fee.

Chatroom
A dedicated chatroom has been set up for FinalEscape which can be joined by clicking the Chatroom link in the left-side menu of any game page.

Please remember that the game rules apply as well to the FinalEscape chat server, so please behave in a friendly and mature manner when chatting with other players.

Voting
The Vote page allows you to help promote FinalEscape by voting on various gaming toplist sites. Each time you submit a vote for FinalEscape, you will receive a reward, such as some PMU and/or stamina-replenishing items like energy bars.

Each toplist site has different rules regarding how often a vote can be cast from a particular IP address, and the vote page tracks when you last voted. Most of the toplist sites only count votes from the same IP address once per 24 hours. The Vote page records when you last voted, and will automatically enable the Vote button for a particular site when your vote will be valid again.

This is a great way to give a little boost to your avatar's development, and your votes help to bring in more players (which makes FinalEscape more fun to play for everyone), so be sure to vote on each toplist site every day!

Factions

GENERAL FACTION INFORMATION

Membership
Players of any level can join a faction, but there is a requirement of Influence of 5 or more to create a new faction. Players can only be a member of one faction at a time. Players who are not a member of any faction will display "Unaffiliated" on their player profile page.

To join an existing faction, visit the faction's profile page. If the faction leader has enabled new member applications, there will be an Apply button available to submit an application to join the faction. There is also an optional text box where you can add a short message to the faction staff (i.e. info about yourself, why you would be a good addition to the faction, etc.).

The maximum number of members that a faction can have is determined by the Influence of the faction leader, as follows:
  • Influence 5: 5 members (including faction leader)
  • Influence 6: 6 members
  • Influence 7: 7 members
  • Influence 8: 8 members
  • Influence 9: 9 members
  • Influence 10: 10 members
  • Influence 11: 11 members
  • Influence 12: 12 members
  • Influence 13: 13 members
  • Influence 14: 14 members
  • Influence 15: 15 members
  • Influence 16: 16 members
  • Influence 17: 17 members
  • Influence 18: 18 members
  • Influence 19: 19 members
  • Influence 20: 20 members
  • Influence 21: 21 members
  • Influence 22: 22 members
  • Influence 23: 23 members
  • Influence 24: 24 members
  • Influence 25: 25 members
  • Influence 26: 26 members
  • Influence 27: 27 members
  • Influence 28: 28 members
  • Influence 29: 29 members
  • Influence 30: 30 members
  • Influence 31: 32 members
  • Influence 32: 34 members
  • Influence 33: 36 members
  • Influence 34: 38 members
  • Influence 35: 40 members
  • Influence 36: 42 members
  • Influence 37: 44 members
  • Influence 38: 46 members
  • Influence 39: 48 members
  • Influence 40: 50 members

Leadership of a faction can be handed over to another member of the faction, but only if the new leader has high enough Influence to accomodate the current number of faction members.

Member Permissions
The faction leader can assign various permissions to each member, including:
  • Owner: The Owner of the faction. There can only be one owner at a time.
  • Admin: Administrators have most of the privileges that Owners do. Administrators cannot demote or dismiss the Owner or other Administrators. This is the highest rank below the Owner rank.
  • Staff: Staff members cannot demote or dismiss the Owner, Admins, or other Staff members. This is the third highest rank in the faction. Staff do not have any specific privileges.
  • Finance: The Finance permission allows the faction member to credit cash from the faction vault to faction members.
  • Diplomat: The Diplomat permission allows the faction member to declare allies and enemies with other factions.
  • Recruiter: The Recruiter permission allows the faction member to accept applications for new faction members.
  • Member Manager: The Member Manager permission allows the faction member to accept applications for new faction members and to dismiss faction members.
  • Faction Control: This permission must be granted to the owner before ownership of the faction can be transferred, or before the faction can be disbanded.
  • Communications: The Communications permission allows the faction member to send a faction Dispatch to all faction members.
  • HQ Access: The HQ Access permission allows the faction member to store and remove items from the faction's HQ storage.

Faction owners and admins have all permissions by default, with the exception of the Faction Control permission, which for safety reasons must be manually enabled in order to transfer ownership or disband the faction.

Faction Vault
Every faction has a vault where PMU can be safeguarded, and access given to trusted members. All members of a faction have the ability to deposit funds into the vault (via the Contribute page), but only members who have been granted the Finance permission (see above) may withdraw funds from the faction vault. There are no fees associated with depositing or withdrawing funds from the faction vault.

Faction Logo
Each faction is able to upload a custom identifying logo. This image must be no larger than any of the following:
240 pixels wide
160 pixels high
200 kilobytes
A small thumbnail of this image is automatically created, and will be displayed in various locations to identify players as members of a particular faction (e.g. the Players Online page).

Faction Reputation
Factions are ranked based on their number of reputation points, which measure the renown, fame (infamy), and respect of the faction on Phiela. Reputation points are earned through combat, faction actions and some individual crimes. Each time a member of the faction defeats a member of another faction in combat, he/she earns reputation points for his/her faction, with extra reputation points awarded for defeating members of enemy factions. Reputation points are also earned by successfully completing faction actions. Higher level faction actions (with better potential item/cash rewards) may have reputation requirements in order to be attempted.

Factions earn a daily income of bribes, payoffs and protection money from local colonists. The amount of PMU earned each day is based on the amount of faction reputation (1% of reputation total). Reputation pay is deposited into the faction vault each night at midnight Phiela Time (GMT -5). Records of each day's reputation earnings are available in the faction logs under the Finance tab.

**IMPORTANT NOTES**
Faction reputation erodes slowly over time. Therefore, to retain a position of esteem (or fear) in Phiela society, a faction must remain continually active to protect, secure and expand its spheres of influence and control, or risk being displaced by more active and aggressive bands of colonists.

FACTION HQ
The faction leader can establish a faction headquarters by purchasing a property from the Property Agency. Each faction HQ property has a maximum amount of storage capacity, which can be further increased through the use of special HQ upgrade items. Each HQ upgrade item requires a certain number of improvement points in order to be added to a property. The current number of used and available improvement points can be viewed on the HQ page. Faction HQs also have a security rating, which is not currently implemented (but will be soon).

Once a headquarters is acquired, members of the faction with the HQ Manager permission will be able to store items in the HQ storage area, or use this as method of transferring items to other faction members. The HQ storage interface works in much the same way as the normal player dwelling storage.

If the faction already owns a HQ property and wishes to upgrade to a larger property, this is easily achieved by simply purchasing the new property. The old property will automatically be sold back to the Property Agency, and all items in the HQ storage area will be automatically moved into the new property. Note however that any property upgrades that were added to the old property will not be transferred to the new property.

Faction HQ properties incur monthly taxes that must be paid to the Phiela Government every 30 days. Each property deed has a particular tax rate, which is calculated against the base value of the deed. For example, if the base value of a property is 1000 PMU and the tax rate for that property is 4%, then the monthly tax that must be paid is 40 PMU. Tax rates vary among the various available properties, and are dependent on location, size, number of improvement points and security rating. The date when taxes are next due is displayed on the faction HQ tab.

**IMPORTANT NOTES**
*Only the faction leader can use the HQ upgrade items to improve the faction HQ property.

*All Faction HQ related-transactions use funds from the faction vault.

FACTION ACTIONS
Factions actions allow members to combine their various skill proficiencies and work together in performing advanced crimes and activities. Successfully performing a faction action not only offers the chance to loot cash and powerful items, but also earns reputation points for your faction.

Faction actions consist of two or more roles, each of which may have individual Level, skill or item requirements. One of these roles is the Leader role, and is always reserved for the faction leader. Each of the other faction action roles must be filled by faction members.

To participate in a faction action, click on the Action Lobby tab on the My Faction page. Faction actions can only be initiated by the faction leader, who must then invite one of the faction members present in the Action Lobby into one of the secondary roles. Once this invitation is accepted by the faction member, the Initiate button will become active for the faction leader, and the faction action can be attemped.

In order for a faction action to succeed, all roles must be successfully performed. If any one of the faction members fails at his/her assigned role, all members participating in the action suffer any penalties incurred (i.e. prison or hospital confinement). Each role uses a different set of avatar skills to calculate success. Carefully reading the role descriptions will provide some hints as to the applicable skills involved.

Note that all PMU or items received from a successfully performed faction action are awarded to the faction leader, whose duty it is to split the loot accordingly or as agreed within the faction.
